This site is dedicated to Tracy Khauv -- A daughter, a sister, a fiancée, loyal employee and a friend, who is battling back against a debilitating illness.
As you may know, Tracy fell ill on July 15th, and she remained hospitalized at Kaiser Hospital in Anaheim until Dec. 13th, when she finally returned home. Tracy continues to recover at home with her parents on an outpatient basis. She is now walking and talking. Tracy is working very hard every day with the hopes of returning to work as soon as possible. The constant support of her friends and loved ones has been a continuing source of motivation for Tracy during this challenging time.
Since Tracy’s hospitalization, this site has been updating friends and family on Tracy’s status.
Friends and family who would like to send Tracy their best wishes are welcome to post messages to this site. Tracy does read these messages, and she feels truly encouraged by hearing the words of support of all those who care about her.
Tracy can also be reached via e-mail at tracytopco[at]aol[dot]com.

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for your continuous support throughout my recovery.
Although I have not been back to work yet I have been keeping myself busy with school. And I find that it has been helping me with memory stimulation. I hope to return to work in the near future. Please keep in touch.
All my best, Tracy Khauv

Dear All,
This is Tracy writing to you. I am thrilled to tell you that I have made even more remarkable progress since the last time I posted my message. I am now capable of doing many things which I was not able to when I left the hospital on Dec 13. My daily routine includes computer class, physical therapy and many hours of home studies. I also go to Topco Sales once a week.
I'm working very hard to get myself back on track again. My biggest challenge is memory. As a result, I may have missed or have forgotten replying back to some of you in one way or another. I know my memory span has improved compared to before, but I still need to work on it. I hope that it will all come back over time.
It is amazing that I actually survived such a severe injury. It has been a long journey, but with your love and support I have made it through. Thank you so much for keeping in touch with me.
Love,
Tracy

Tracy has made remarkable progress on her road to recovery! In comparison to how Tracy was doing when she left the hospital on December 13th, her strength and communication have improved times ten. She now can carry on conversations, although she still needs to work on her short-term memory.
Tracy is very happy to have heard from everyone and has enjoyed reading her get-well wishes via this website. She apologizes for not being able to reply to any of the messages at this time, but appreciates everyone's support and hopes to communicate back very soon. Due to Tracy's memory loss, she still needs to re-learn a lot of the things she used to do, which includes typing on her laptop, and she cannot remember most past events, but the good news is that her recollection is improving every day. When writing an e-mail or posting a message on these boards, attaching a picture or including a detailed description of who you are would help Tracy greatly.
If you wish to speak with Tracy directly, she can now accept calls on her cell phone (for the number to reach her you can e-mail tracytopco[at]aol[dot]com). Tracy would like everyone to know that she does read your messages and asks everyone not to take it personally if you don't get a reply from her or if she doesn't remember who you are. She is fighting hard to get her memory and her skills back on track. Tracy would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Tracy Is Going Home!
We are excited to announce that today, December 13th, is Tracy's last day at Northridge Hospital. She is going home with her parents and will be allowed to continue her therapy on an outpatient basis. The medical staff at the hospital is amazed at how quickly she has recovered over the course of the past month. With her strong will and determination, Tracy will be back on her feet again in the near future.
It has been a long and difficult journey for Tracy and her family. They would like to say "thank you" to all of your for your kindness during this time. Your prayers and support all made a positive impact on Tracy's recovery. She is blessed to be connected with so many wonderful people. Tracy looks forward to reconnecting with each of you soon. Until then, she and her family wish everyone a safe and wonderful holiday.

Tracy is now completely on the road to recovery. She continues to work very hard. She is exercising daily to regain her strength. Although her memories are coming back slowly, she still has a great deal to relearn and remember. She had her first "field trip" this past weekend when she was allowed to leave the hospital for half a day and visit with relatives. This was a momentous point in her recovery. Tracy was so happy to be out of the hospital. Today, December 5, marks day number 139 in this ongoing ordeal. Tracy's a fighter, though, and she says that she looks forward to returning to work sometime in 2007.
Tracy would love to have visitors. You can also call her at 818-885-5328 (press her room #3312 after the greeting). Best time is after her therapy sessions from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Tracy’s condition continues to improve at an even faster pace than ever before. It started last week when she wore her glasses for the first time since her illness. She screamed with excitement at how much clearer everything was. She could actually see things which she wasn't able to see before. She was able to read the writing on the message board, see the television clearly, and differentiate between the wall clock's long and short hands. She tells us that having clear vision helps to bring back memories and makes communication easier for her.
She now recognizes everybody that visits and knows that she has been sick since the summer. Yesterday she walked a great distance down the hallway corridor with the assistance of a cane. She was proud of her achievement. Based on her recent positive changes, it looks like Tracy will be getting out of the hospital in the near future. Her family is very excited about this and wants all of her friends, family and supporters to know that the continual outpouring of love and encouragement from all of you has been very helpful throughout this difficult and trying experience. Tracy now knows of this website and tells us that she impatiently awaits her opportunity to read all of your messages.

Tracy continues to improve. Each day Tracy regains a little more strength and increases her abilities. This past Sunday, she actually took 25 steps-she's walking now! That was a major accomplishment. She's eating again and we're all excited to see her make this new and welcome progress.

We are happy to report that Tracy has made significant improvement over the past 14 days. She has been transferred back to Northridge Hospital. There, Tracy is undergoing physical therapy and in a recovery and rehabilitation program. Her memories are coming back and she talks and questions a lot. The long process of healing continues and we are hopeful that a significant factor in Tracy's recovery will derive from her strong will and determination. She's a fighter!

Today marks Tracy's 12th week in this terrible ordeal. A great deal has taken place since our last few postings. We apologize for not updating this website sooner. We realize that it is your source to reach out to Tracy and hear of her progress. We have been hesitant to post information, at times, as we wanted to wait for better news on her progress.
Several weeks ago, Tracy seemingly was making improvement at Northridge Hospital Rehabilitation Unit. They were exercising both her mind and her body. She had begun to speak again and her memory was beginning to slowly return. She was making good progress, but still needed time to heal. Then, however, her progress slowed and all but dissipated.
She was transferred back to Kaiser Hospital for another operation and is undergoing a recovery for the next few days. Then she will go back to the Northridge Hospital for her rehabilitation again.
She is not allowed visitors or flowers. We pray for her full and complete recovery.

A week has passed since our last update. Tracy is still not allowed visitors at this time. She is making positive progress, however, it is slow.
Tuesday, September 5, 2006
Today Tracy was moved to a different hospital. She is now at Northridge Hospital. She is not allowed visitors at this time. She is slowly continuing to get stronger day by day.

Tracy shows new signs of improvement. She's able to follow verbal commands to move her head and her hands and clearly, now, recognizes her family members. However, she is still confused, at times, during this weakened state. Currently, she is getting a 30 minute physical therapy (PT) session each day. Although her road to recovery is slow, her family is very happy to see that she is medically stable now and that she is more attentive when she is spoken to.

Tracy has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit at Kaiser Hospital in Anaheim, California, back to Kaiser Hospital, Woodland Hills, which happens to be the second hospital that she spent time at. She was moved Saturday evening around 8:00 p.m. This was done because she has been downgraded from Intensive Care. This is another positive sign on her long road toward recovering.

Today, Tracy shows even more improvement. Today was the first time Tracy recognized that her sister was in the room. This is a great sign. After seeing Tracy’s facial reactions to her presence in the hospital room, Leona believes Tracy may speak again as soon as the doctors are able to remove the trachea tubing. The tubing, which has been her back up support over the past few weeks, makes speech impossible. Leona, again, wanted everyone to know that Tracy is getting better and that she thanks everyone for all of their support and concern. As there continues to be good news now, she will try to update this site more frequently.

The doctors were able to do a brain operation yesterday and the coiling procedure was performed. That procedure was successful. They were able to stop the bleeding of the weakened arterial blood vessel. After the operation, she was much more alert than she had been in the past. She is still unable to communicate, but it seems that she is somewhat aware that people are in the room. The next step is to move her to another facility to begin therapy that will help her recover. The family may move her from Anaheim to a location closer to their home in Ventura, California. She remains in Intensive Care for the time being.
Leona, Tracy’s sister, wanted those of you reading these updates to know that she has been at Tracy’s side, in the hospital, every day and actually every night since July 19. These past five weeks have been quite difficult but your words to Tracy have helped the family. She has been touched by all of the people who have written to Tracy. The family is comforted by all of those friends and loved ones who continue to write to her and also to those who monitor her site.

Tracy’s doctors finally found a small aneurysm in her brain. The doctors are now planning to do a procedure called coiling, which is a minimally invasive procedure that treats the aneurysm from inside the blood vessels.
Tuesday, August 15, 2006
Tracy is off of the ventilator and has opened her eyes. She is still unable to speak, but her condition seems to be improving. She may soon be able to leave the ICU and be admitted to a rehab hospital.
Tuesday, August 8, 2006
Tracy is making very subtle, very slight improvements today. She does have a long way to go, though.
Monday, August 7, 2006
Tracy is off antibiotics today. This is a good sign.
Sunday, August 6, 2006
Fever is down again...temperature normal. The doctors are still trying to relieve the excess pressure on her brain. It appeared that she was listening to her sister's commands, but mostly, it appears, that she is unresponsive to commands at this point.
Friday, August 4, 2006
No change as of today. Prognosis still undetermined.
Wednesday, August 2, 2006
Tracy’s fever subsided for the first time since hospitalization. However, later during the day, her fever returned. The doctors are still struggling to provide us with more information.
Tuesday, July 25, 2006
As of today, Tracy remains in critical condition at Kaiser Anaheim. She has been non-communicative since July 19th. The doctors indicate that this is due to excess fluid causing pressure on her brain. This fluid will have to drain for Tracy to improve. According to the doctors, this may take several weeks. Tracy's road to recovery will be a long one, but we are all pulling for her.
